GUIDE: Ultimate V6 or SG Mini?

Ready to treat yourself to a pair of Sounds Good headphones but unsure which model to choose? Let us guide you and explore in detail the unique advantages of the Ultimate V6 and SG Mini for the ideal experience.

TL;PL

SG Mini are more comfortable and better suited to smaller ears. They offer a better fit and are generally a better choice for calls than Ultimate V6s.

The V6s, on the other hand, are compatible with wireless charging and have a battery life of 7 hours (compared with 5 hours for the Mini). They also offer slightly better sound quality than the SG Mini, and are better at blocking out ambient noise.

The choice between V6 and SG Mini earphones depends on use and personal preference.

The format

  • While the Ultimate V6 are suitable for most people, if you have small earholes and have trouble finding earphones that fit your small ears, the SG Mini are probably the only option.
  • If you're looking for lightweight, subtle and delicate headphones, SG Mini is for you.
  • If you have good hands and are rather sturdy, the Ultimate V6s are probably a better choice.

The outfit

  • For most of our customers, the V6s hold up really well. It's possible to turn them back and forth back and forthas if you were aiming them into your ears. However, people with ears that are too small or too large may have difficulty with the fit.
  • The SG Mini, on the other hand, hold up really well for almost everyone. With their little silicone hooks, you can do pirouettes and any Yoga position with your head in any direction, and the SG Mini will stay in place without a problem! In any case, the SG Mini is superior to the V6 in terms of fit.

Sound quality

  • Let's start by mentioning that ear tips play a major role in sound perception. If you find that there's a lack of bass, it's usually because the earmolds are too small and don't seal your ears well enough. SG Mini eartips have been developed more for sport, and allow a little ambient noise to pass through, sometimes to the detriment (depending on the type of ear) of bass depth. For people with "regular" size ears, we recommend adding the Ultimate V6 ear tips tips and see which you prefer, depending on your use. For smaller ears, the V6 earmolds generally offer a marginal difference.
  • Overall, the Ultimate V6s offer better definition across all frequency ranges, with richer, more dynamic sound and punchier bass. The difference between the Mini and the V6 is not major for the average person, whereas an audiophile might say that the difference is significant.

Ambient noise cancellation

  • The V6s are so good at blocking out ambient noise that it would be virtually pointless to add an active noise cancellation (ANC) function. Their plug shape, which adapts very well to the shape of your ears, seals them in very effectively and cuts you off from the rest of the world. The SG Mini, on the other hand, let a little sound through, so you can keep an eye on your surroundings. Once again, the SG Mini 's noise cancellation can be enhanced with Ultimate V6 ear tipsbut the result won't be as striking as with the V6s, but not far off!

Comfort

  • For some people, mainly those with small ears, the V6 can be uncomfortable (like most in-ear headphones). For "regular" size ears, V6s are comfortable. Nevertheless, in all cases, SG Mini are the champions of comfort. We have customers who can't stand any pair of in-ear headphones except the SG Mini. If comfort is the most important factor for you, the SG Mini is undoubtedly the best choice.

Calls

  • While Ultimate V6s produce clear communication, they have the drawback of picking up ambient noise, which can be unpleasant for the interlocutor. In a quiet environment, V6s perform very well. SG Minis, on the other hand, are less likely to pick up ambient noise and are generally better for calls. The V6s may offer a better experience than the Minis in a quiet environment, but the Minis adapt better to all situations. If you intend to use your earphones to make a lot of calls in a variety of contexts, the Mini is generally the better choice.

Sleep

  • If you're looking for earphones for sleeping in direct contact with the pillow, the SG Mini format is ideal for this purpose. If you want to block out more ambient noise for sleeping, we suggest adding the Ultimate V6 mouthpieces ear tips to your purchase, which are also compatible with SG Mini. The difference between the Mini and V6 earmolds will be felt more or less depending on your ear type. Smaller ears will notice less difference, while for some ears, the difference is very noticeable.

Battery life

  • While the Mini offers 5h of music listening and 4h of calling, the V6 offers 7h of music listening and 5h of calling (and 4 full recharges with the box in both cases). The SG Mini's small size means that it cannot accommodate a larger battery for longer autonomy.

Wireless charging

  • Only V6 models offer induction charging.

Codecs

  • In addition to AAC and SBC codecs, the Ultimate V6, unlike the Mini, offers the aptX Adaptive codec. Please note that to enjoy the performance of the aptX Adaptive codec, you need a codec-compatible device.

Water resistance

  • While V6s are IPX5 (Can withstand a sustained low-pressure jet of water. Not recommended for use in the shower), the Mini is IPX4 (Resists splashing water in all directions). Legend has it that the V6s have survived armfuls of washing, but be warned that if they survive on the spot, they may suffer permanent damage later on.
